CHARLIE LIVING

“Some people have a heart of stone. Some stones have a human heart.”

With the 2021 MIPIM nomination in the category “Residential Developments”, Charlie Living from the minds of GRAFT Architects were also recognized on the international stage. MIPIM (Marché International des Professionnels de l’immobilie) is considered the world’s most important real estate trade show.

CHARLIE LIVING AND CHECKPOINT CHARLIE

It is no coincidence that Charlie Living bears this name. The award-winning accommodations are just steps away from the world-famous intersection of Zimmerstrasse and Friedrichstrasse.

For both locations, we developed a detailed plan in coordination with the state of Berlin with one objective: To make a contribution to Berlin’s urban development with peaceful, future-oriented, and international appeal.

PLANNING FOR EXCELLENCE
The list of recognitions for this project is a lengthy one, and we are grateful to have been able to contribute to an important part of Berlin’s urban development.

Community Living

One of the last gaps on the former path of the BerlinWall in Berlin-Mitte was closed with the three eight-story buildings and a series of townhouses. All buildings and sections are open to the public; there is no separation of residential courtyard and public paths.

Instead, a new walkway invites the neighborhood to make use of seating while enjoying landscaping resembling a wadi.

“One of the last vacant lots in the urban center of Berlin has been turned into a residential neighborhood that creates a haven of calm for the community as a green wadi. It is connected to the surrounding area and open to the public.” Thomas Willemeit, founding partner GRAFT Architekten
